Climb to the highest peak in Wales (1,085 m) via the lesser-used but historically rich Watkin Path – the most challenging of the classic Snowdon routes, with the greatest vertical gain from near sea level. The path starts gently through woodland with cascading waterfalls, passes historic slate mine remains, and features Gladstone Rock (where Prime Minister William Gladstone addressed a crowd in 1892 to officially open the route). It ascends through the scenic Cwm Llan valley before tackling a tough, steep final section over loose scree to reach the summit. The route rewards with stunning southern views across Eryri and a satisfying sense of achievement on the top. Descent follows the same path back to the start.
